Books, Authors, and Book Reviews
I inherited a genetic condition that forces me to read a lot of books, and this blog is where I post about them. In the past, my book reviews have appeared on BitterSweetLife, and you can find a list of them there. Here at arieljvan.com, the trend will continue (check the “book reviews” archive category in the sidebar).
You can get a feel for upcoming reviews by checking the books pictured in the sidebar, which represent my current reading list. I love talking shop, so if you think any of my books are awesome or stupid, let me know, and I’ll compliment you or trash talk you as necessary.
I love theology, and end up reading a lot of books on topics like church planting, emerging church, history, evangelism, spirituality and biblical studies, but I’m also a big believer in fiction, especially fantasy, literature, and mysteries. Since the strongest reality that surrounds us now is invisible and not yet fully realized, it helps to have a healthy imagination–am I right?
Here are some favorite authors, so you know what to expect…
C.S. Lewis, John Piper, J.R.R. Tolkien, Walter Wangerin, Eugene Peterson, Philip Yancey, George MacDonald, Ernest Hemingway, Fyodor Dostoevsky, Ravi Zacharias, Mark Twain, Chaim Potock, Charles Dickens, Dorothy Sayers, P.D. James, Leo Tolstoy, Donald Miller, Mark Driscoll, Bret Lott, Frederick Buechner, Larry Woiwode, Julio Cortazar, Flannery O’Connor, Ajith Fernando
Based on what you see here, feel free to shoot me recommendations. You can see my entire library, frequently updated, on LibraryThing. Yeah, I’m a total book geek, but unabashedly so.
