Downtown Kansas City Photo Shoot: The Filling Station Coffee Shop
After an equipment malfunction, my Downtown KC Photo Shoot was officially launched yesterday when I 1) headed downtown for the day, and, 2) actually remembered to bring my camera, fully charged this time.
The first stop was The Filling Station, one of my favorite Kansas City coffee shops. I love this place because the coffee and espresso are excellent (maybe second only to the Broadway Cafe as far as metro coffee shops go) and the atmosphere is unparalleled, especially when the weather is good.
With the glass doors rolled up, my favorite place to sit is on the indoor/outdoor seam… Technically, the 31st and Gilham road area isn’t downtown proper, but you can see downtown from the hillside and drive into the Crossroads District in literally a couple minutes. Good enough for me.
Maybe downtown could annex this area and claim The Filling Station? If you haven’t visited yet, be sure to swing by (2950 Mcgee Trafficway, Kansas City, MO 64108). Tell them you came after reading the shameless plug on AJ’s website and maybe I can get a few extra punches on my coffee card.

the filling station’s espresso and coffee is not second to braodway cafe-they CARRY broadway’s coffee there! broadway cafe supplies the filling station with their coffee products…the filling station does not hide this fact, the bags are displayed behind the counter.

Hey Annie, I know the Filling Station carries BC beans…I usually buy my espresso beans there. In the post I wasn’t talking about the beans, more the quality of the cappuccinos, espresso, etc. You know, the barista factor. The FT is awesome, but I still give the edge to the BC (in the battle of the great KC coffee acronyms).

Oh how I wish Ottumwa had a coffee house 1/10 as good as that. I’d take 1/100. I’d take a coffee house period!

Maybe God is pushing you to open a coffeehouse as a gift to the community, bro.

Oh no! I can tell I’ll have to go smooth this over in person…another excuse to drink that exceptional Filling Station coffee and enjoy the best coffee shop vibe in Kansas City… did I actually SAY the Broadway Cafe was better? Wow, I must have been off my head…and I was younger then…

Wow, you really are out to take over the known coffee world. I was going to ask if there were plans to start roasting in-house…nice.
